Many traders don't know the many indicators that need to be correctly
interpreted to make their trade entries consistently. They
overtrade weak signals.
Tip: see
this article I wrote for eSignal on ADX/Volume breakouts, for
an example of strong signals.
It's common for people to misread the
charts and level 2, getting stopped out while trying
to buy bottoms, getting into their trades a bit too late
or too early.

Are most of your entries bottom bounce attempts or breakout
longs/breakdown shorts? How effectively do you use time & sales
to trade?

There are 3 key differences
you need to know between experienced and
new traders, in how they respond to trading
signals:
- Chart
Patterns: new
traders bottom fish and make low-probability
intrarange bounce trades, professionals look
for 2-day and high-of-day breakout patterns
- Timing & Indicators:
pros know the timing patterns, eg 10-minute
reversals during the first half hour 9:30-10am. Pro
traders and market makers read the market like
a system, using indicators like support/resistance
on 1-minute bar/candle charts, COMPQ, TRINQ,
SOX/GIN together. New traders are usually too
slow, "one wave behind" the pros,
and do not know how to interpret the market
indicators correctly.
- Risk Management:
good news - with decimal trading, we can keep
even tighter stops. Pros limit risk to flat
or 4 spreads maximum, we use close trailing
stops to protect open profits. Many new traders
get out too soon or too late, taking small
profits and large losses.
They often
think they "got
a bad fill" when it fact it was the traders'
fault for not exiting quickly based on time & sales
patterns. Reading the charts and time & sales
like an experienced trader does is critical to
your success.
You and I are not market makers
with MLCO wielding $2M in buying power for this
next NVLS trade. We can't afford to make mistakes.
We need to make a bigger ratio of wins to stops,
to stay ahead.
